How To Find The Truth

How To Find The Truth

This was from the latest edition of The Optimized Report newsletter, a collection of actionable ideas to help small business teams improve their performance, profit, and potential without sacrificing what's most important.

What is truth?

It's so fickle. It's like a moving target, and often, we're terrible hunters.

"Truth" is vastly different based on our mental programming, or as the book The Four Agreements teaches, based on how we've been domesticated:

As children, we're taught to live and believe a certain way. We live in a dream; "the dream of the planet includes all of society's rules, its beliefs, its laws, it's religions, it's different cultures and ways to be, its governments, schools, social events, and holidays."

So if you seek truth, you have to learn to push through your emotions and domestication.

Now, on to this week's optimized ideas: 👇

How To Stop Getting Distracted

Life is full of useless distraction that pulls you away from your most important priorities.

I recently read the book, Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, which discussed distraction and what you can do to pay more attention, even during uncomfortable situations.

Distraction is a lie we tell ourselves to seek relief from discomfort, and this essay will help give you a glimmer of hope to push through the barriers.

Truth Has Limited Reach

Truth is mutually exclusive from your beliefs.

They often conflict with one another, and what matters more than truth is, "Does this person's thinking make sense? Does she have good arguments?" Truth is never about "are her beliefs true?"

Maarten makes you think about rationality; take a few moments to meditate on what he's saying.

The Biggest Challenge You Face As A Leader

It's finding the right people for the right roles that accept the company's values.

It can be challenging, but Jim Rohn has a simple formula to screen people for just about anything.

The most significant point he makes is about checking results; results are the name of the game.

Asking Good Questions Can Change Your Life

A great answer first starts with a great question.

Spend time regularly asking elevating questions which will give you more clarity and direction.

They will help you discover something new or unique.

Show Me What You Spend Your Time On, And I'll Show You What's Most Important

For example, if you always doom scroll on Twitter, escaping your present moment is what you value.

Ryan Holiday is my Stoic mentor for a good reason: "We can't waste the time. We can't let life just happen. We can't let the pages fall from the calendar the days, we'll never get them back. They belong to death now."

So ask yourself, What Are You Spending Your Time On?
